FAQ
-
How long does it take to learn to swim?Knowing how to swim is a life skill that can be learned quickly, but requires time and practice. The STA method is extraordinarily effective and incredibly simple to master. As students move on to more advanced stages, they will not need to be re-taught, as no unwanted habits are formed in the process. However, there are a number of factors to consider in becoming a swimmer. The age of the child, his or her desire to learn, the frequency of sessions and the results desired by the parents must be taken into account. We strongly recommend that lessons continue until the child is a confident and competent swimmer. They should feel comfortable in all depths of water and be able to swim and breathe safely for long distances.
-
Why start swimming classes so young? The pool is like the womb for babies, who have not yet established distinct phobias, so it seems only natural. Young newborns are more comfortable on their backs and have an innate response to holding their breath, which makes learning to float on their backs easier. When infants begin to roll over, or as early as 3 to 6 months of age, this dynamic can change. The likelihood of a newborn accepting being in the water increases with age. Because they are not subject to gravity and can benefit from the cardiovascular activity offered by swimming, exposure to water is the best type of exercise. Babies who start early have the advantage of learning the fundamentals of swimming, improving their bilateral coordination and balance, being exposed to a controlled learning environment, and having the opportunity to develop motor and social skills.
-
In which languages can you offer swimming lessons?SWIMI lessons are taught in English and French. If your child needs swimming lessons in another language, please let us know and we will try to make special arrangements.
-
How do I change my child's class time?Once your child is enrolled in the course, you are committed for the entire semester, if you need to change your child's class date or time, we can do so until the next semester.
-
How to know the swimming level of your child? When registering your child at SWIMI, you will be asked to select the appropriate swim level for your child. If you have any questions about selecting the appropriate level, please contact us and we will be happy to assist you. Please be sure to select the right level for your child, as it is very difficult to change levels in the middle of a term.
-
What equipment is needed for the course? All of our students are required to have proper swim attire, including a bathing suit, goggles, and a swim cap before entering the pool. Please bring appropriate shoes and towels. Babies under the age of 3 and half years participating in our BABY AND ME classes must wear a disposable swim diaper under a reusable neoprene swim diaper instead of a swimsuit. Goggles or a swim cap are not required.
-
Why are the levels of the Baby and Me courses based on age? Here are a few reasons why Baby and Me swim lessons are often age-based. One reason is that babies' abilities and developmental milestones tend to follow a predictable schedule as they grow and mature. This means that certain skills and abilities are more developmentally appropriate for babies of certain ages. On the other hand, instructors are able to tailor the course to the specific needs and abilities of the students. Different age groups will have different attention spans, energy levels, and skill levels, so grouping babies by age allows instructors to create appropriate and engaging lesson plans for all students in the class.
-
Are kid swim lessons age-based?Our kid courses from 5 till 12 years old are not based on age, its based on technique and swimming, we don't want a child who already has the ability to move to the next level to wait just because of their age.
-
How long does it take for my child to advance to the next level? It typically takes between 6 months to 1 year for your child to pass the age categories, master each level and fulfill all its criteria. It's crucial not to pause classes during this period, as the reflexes your child has developed over months may fade, requiring them to start anew, prolonging the adaptation process. Consistency is key to their continued progress and success in swimming.
